9/6/22 - Exploring Clay
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! We hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! We've started the new week with a new material in our room, clay! The children spent some time getting used to the feel of clay.
GP: "It feels bumpy and soft and when it's wet it feels like mud."
EmO: "Look! I'm drawing with it!"
RN: "It makes your hands dirty"
The children discussed with each other what they were making:
GP: "I need to make some more eggs"
BW: "I made a big snowman!"
FL: "I made a ball!"
RN: "I made a snowman too, I'm going to put his eye on... I forgot the eggs"
another student: "Why do you need eggs?"
RN: "For the babies"
LM: "The baby snowmen are inside"
NP: "That's where they sleep"
RN: "Now I'm making a hole to put the baby eggs in and I'm going to shut the door too... Look its hatching!"
Students also spent time thinking about sorting and categorizations today. The prompt was "How would you sort the rocks? Why?"
EF: "I'm sorting by shape because I'm starting from tiny to big. Look at this one, it has stripes. Stripes like a zebra."
EmO: "I'm sorting the white and brown in different cups so that I know what they are.
JB: "I found a big white rock"
NP: "Is it gray? No its white."
EF: "I found a fossil!"
