"What Can This Be?"


A provocation was set up yesterday using a poster board and yarn. Friends were curious as to what it could be and wondered why the poster board looked like that.  Here's what some of them thought...

"This looks like a check board, the kind that you put stickers on."
CS - It looks like a guitar because it has strings...see!
BW - It's a big spider web!
"It looks like a hotel with lots of windows because that's what a hotel has.  Lots of windows!"
The teacher asked what could we do if we used brushes?
JB said "they look like stripes and we could use paint brushes to paint them." 
What a great idea!!! We went to the materials library, gathered some paint and got busy painting.


We paused our work and came back to finish it later in the day.









They finally finished their beautiful painting!

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
