Designing Castles

Good afternoon Oak Family!  Last week we began reading the magic tree house chapter books.  The books tell the story of Jack and Annie who finds a tree house in the woods that takes them on adventures back in time.  We began book number 2 last week and the children have been very engaged in re-telling the events that have happened in each of the chapters books thus far.  Now that we are reading the story about a castle with knights, it has re-ignited their interests into telling their stories as they build, construct and design castles.

We put castle blocks on the table with wooden people as well as castle blocks on the carpet and watched as the children went to work on their awesome castle structures. Check it out!
"I'm making a tall castle and at the bottom that's where the people go in."
These friends are working at the table designing castles and adding people to them.

EF made a tiny castle.
GP is building a bridge that will lead to the castle.

GN and BW work together with GP on the design of his castle.

KD tells me about the dogs and people who live in his castle.
GN - This is the guard gate.  You can only get into the castle if they let you pass through.
GP - "This is the bridge going over the moat and it leads you into the castle.  The castle has a lower level and a top level.  I need to build stairs so you can get to the top level"

JB makes Jack and Annie's tree house. "Jack and Annie goes to the top of the tree house and jumps from one side to the other side" he says.
CC is making the door for the tree house.

The children also worked at the table with Ms. Lena filing wood and making people.  They truly Love working with the tools and wood.

Have a great afternoon!
