Gold Paper and A Celebration

Image
We covered a table with new material today and wondered what might come of it. Several friends came over quite inquisitively asking what it was and what are we going to do with it. BW excitedly shouted out "Gold Paper!" The friends began to explore the paper by touching, feeling and rubbing it. They conversed with each other making comments on how the paper felt and even noticed that the paper could make a reflection.  NN - It feels bright like the sun.  JB - It feels like popped paper. GP - It feels like dry dirt because it's smooth and kind of bumpy. EO - It feels like the ocean. AV - It's like a reflection of your hands. Do you see it? EO - It's really bumpy and my hands kind of reflect like the gold paper. After the friends finished conversing about the gold paper, we talked about how we could use this new material with other materials to create something. EO said "What story can you tell using this gold paper?" Well, there you have it! Great questi...

Many Materials Monday

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! Children were busy with a variety of materials this morning!  They were trying to connect small pieces with different properties together using a variety of connection materials and techniques.  For added fun, some children created patterns and added artistic flair to their creations.  Children continue to enjoy their study of the different properties of materials and devise ways to connect them.  The students will need to use their analysis to connect the dragon materials together! GK: "There's the circle at the end, it keeps the beads from coming off" CS: "It's twisted, it helps the beads stay on" GNF: "I did this to keep the beads on" NP: "I'm making a pattern on mine" CC: "I made a car!" Have a wonderful day!

Planning the Dragon

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! We kept watching the wind chill, but it never got high enough for us to make it to the forest this morning. That did give us an opportunity to build a Pokémon car, a Pokémon house, a boat, and a castle in the collaboratory! And even better, it gave us a chance to start planning the dragon! Children used several materials to try and plan the dragon including clay, wire, diagrams, paper, cloth and more! Children spent time exploring the materials they brought from home and materials from school to see how they can be used to create the dragon and what else we might still need. What a warm fire breathing morning to combat such chilly weather this morning!  Have a wonderful weekend!
