What is it?

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  EF found something hiding in the corner of the gym.  It was too shy to come out on its own but with some coaxing and gentle concern and interest from the children it was convinced to come out and play.  It wasn't ready to speak to the children yet but the children were curious about it.  EF wondered whose it was and as she carried it gently asked "can we get this out?"  The shy creature still wasn't ready to speak with the children but willingly stretched out after its long slumber in the corner and the children grew more curious.

RN: "Do we have to blow it up?"

EF: "Can we go inside?"

GI: "What is it?"

EF: "It's a cane frog"

RN: "It's a cane frog...What do you think it is?...It's a turtle"

GI is ready to take action and bravely puts her head down and explores the inside of the creature, she makes it all the way from one side to the other and survived to tell the tale!

EmO: "What is this thing? What do you do? Can I go inside?

The anticipation grows and the children can't hold back any longer, several students go through the creature at once.  It is chaos!  The students come up with ideas to regain order for the investigation but the time for small capers had arrived and we had to tuck away our new friend back into the corner to rest again until next time.

Upon later reflection at meeting, children proposed many possibilities for what our new friend could be.  A dragon? A caterpillar? A fish? A snake? A frog? A turtle?  Although the question is not yet resolved it spoke to the children of dragons brought to life by a series of people using sticks and the children are determined to create such a dragon themselves.  A few children took the lead in planning materials, parts and steps needed to create just the right dragon and much discussion ensued.  Although a teacher took notes of suggestions, the children have taken charge with this project.  We will have to see where this inspiration leads!

Have a wonderful day!
