Beautiful Monday

Good afternoon Oak Room Families! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend! It has certainly been a fun, busy Monday morning and, of course, we are certainly enjoying this beautiful weather!  We had an awesome time making playdough in class this morning.  Friends took turns measuring, scooping and adding ingredients into the pan.  They took turns whisking all the ingredients together and, finally adding several drops of food color to the mixture.  It was quite exciting for the friends as they watched the mixture transform into a cool color.  Check it out!





GNF - It looks like snow falling out of a box.
EO - It's jiggly like jello.






GNF - That looks like a ghost.
EO - It looks like a cactus to me.
JB - It's going to turn lime green. 
GNF - It looks yellow.
NP - Maybe we should add some more green.
JB - That looks so cool.  I'm so proud of us!
We added more green to the mixture.
GNF - Ooh! It's turning green!  No, no.  It's yellow! It looks like dark and light green!

CC - It smells like strawberries.
GNF - It smells like playdough on fire.

EO - It kind of smells strong.
NP - It smells like hot pancakes.

CC - It's like a pancake.
GP - It's salty.
GNF - It's like a muffin, a pizza and a pancake!

We enjoyed playing games, climbing and jumping from the snail and, sitting in the tree on the hillside.



EO helps a friend to climb up on the snail. She tells the friend, you just have to be confident, I know you can do it.  I will help you to get up there. The friend finally makes it up on the snail.  EO climbs up to assure the friend that he is safe.
He was confident enough to jump from the snail.  Awesome!

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
