Spectacular Wednesday with Music in the Background

You might be wondering what we mean by spectacular Wednesday with music in the background.  According to some of the children a spectacular Wednesday is working to the music we here and how it makes us feel.  We started off playing classical music and before we knew it some of the children said "that's too boring, it makes me sleepy."  I asked them what kind of music would they rather listen to as they worked and many of them said "we want some beats."  Well, that was great because listening to instrumental beats certainly inspires us and livens up the atmosphere.  We observed how the children worked in their spaces while the music played and they told us how the music made them feel as they painted with watercolors, made more paper flowers,  created flowers and baskets with playdough, designed Dalmatian doggie homes and created small worlds with the fairy garden materials.
 EF - I made a pattern because the music makes me feel like a butterfly.

JB - The music makes me smile and feel happy. 
  
The music makes me feel like drawing a rainbow with a maple leaf.


GK - I am making a garden.

GNF - The music makes me feel like making a rainbow ice cave.
AV - It makes me feel like a rainbow,
The music made me feel like making lines,
JM - I made a tall house for the dogs.  This is how they go through.

GNF - We're building Dalmatian homes.

Look at my butterfly! This is how you move the wings.

EO - The music made me feel like making a basket of gems.
RN - The music makes me feel like a flower.
The music made me feel like making rainbow flowers.

The music makes me feel like a butterfly.
The music makes me feel like making a rainbow that's colorful.

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
