Bee Playground - Who Visited??

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  We finally got our bee playground up on the window and although our original idea was to include the honey with the playground we considered this and the children decided to wait on the honey and spend some time building something specifically to hold the honey.  After the bee playground was in place we came inside to see it from the inside. During meeting we had a surprise visitor to the playground.  It wasn’t a bee, it was a hummingbird!  We stopped meeting to watch our visiting hummingbird friend as they visited many parts of the playground, flew away and then flew back to visit again!  It was such an exciting surprise!  Later in the morning the children came up with the idea to play music in the mud kitchen and had some totally rockin beats going on! In closing, here is an excitingly huge ant to admire!

A Sandy Feast

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  Students found a lot of culinary inspiration in the sand today.  They prepared chocolate cupcakes, strawberry cupcakes, Halloween cupcakes, smoothies, soups, coconut and so many different ways to carefully decorate them with rocks, sticks, leaves, etc.  It has been beautiful to watch the budding friendships with the students as they work together to serve and eat food, play trucks, invent a mail shoot, play doctor, fight fires together, investigate different corners of the playscape and so much more! Have a great day!

Birthday Celebration!

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  We had the opportunity to celebrate our first birthday of the year in Oak Room!  The children discuss their birthdays with the teachers and choose how they would like to celebrate.  RN chose to celebrate with a popcorn and movie day and the children had a great time with it.  We hooked up the projector, sang an exciting round of Happy Birthday to RN, navigated a couple technical difficulties and successfully watched Bluey with some delicious popcorn.  We honor the children at Ambrose and build classroom community by following their lead for celebrations of themselves and their interests in ways that are meaningful to them.   The children had a fantastic time studying nature samples brought in by DY.  The children got out magnifying glasses, sample tins and the microscope to more closely study the similarities and differences of the various items and try to identify some of the specimens.  KB and DY both decid...

Tour of the Forest

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  Unfortunately we did not have enough teachers today to play inside the forest but we did walk to the forest, take a tour of it and then played next to the forest.  The children enjoyed inspecting and discovering things on the ground and in the trees and the open space for running.  One of the most exciting discoveries was a real live cicada with bright green coloration.  The children studied it and then as a group moved it to a safer space where no one would accidentally step on it and hurt it.  It was so beautiful outside today that we also took our learning to the sand pit as well! We look forward to many more walking adventures this year! Have a fantastic day!
