Bee Friends
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children as a whole approached today with growing confidence as they revisited spaces they used yesterday and remembered our daily routines. The children recognized each other today and were eager to play together again. It was also a lot of fun to play in the gym today!
Yesterday AF noticed a bee on a flower outside one of the windows of the school. AF checked in on his bee friend a few times yesterday and today suggested "Let's go check on our bee friend". CS accompanied AF to check on our bee friend but our friend was not there. AF started wondering if we could do something to bring our bee friend back and suggested "Maybe we could put some bee food out for our bee friend?" A teacher wondered aloud what bees eat. CS answered "bees eat pollen." At that AF turned to the teacher "yes, so do you have any pollen for bees?" Unfortunately the teacher did not have any pollen for bees on hand. AF contemplated the situation further "maybe flowers?... There's some flowers outside so lets do that first... Bees love honey... You should keep the pollen and the honey." We decided to address our bee curiosities with the class at meeting and were able to gather more information:
OD: "We get honey from bees"
HH: "Bees get honey for their queen bee so she can make babies and then grow to big and get honey for the queen bee."
DY: "Bees get pollen from the flowers"
BW: "They suck it up with a type of straw"
IF: "Bees make sweet honey"
DY: "When butterflies are done using their cocoons bees make houses with their cocoons"
HH: "The queen bee stays in the hive"
OD: "Bees suck up from flowers"
BW: "I know they bring honey into their bee hives so the babies grow"
RN: "Bees make honey"
IF: "Bees all live in hives"
We will have to find out if this new information can help us figure out a way to attract our bee friend to our window to visit us or whether the children want to conduct further research.
Have a wonderful day!
