Dance Party and Clay!

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children had a rockin time at a dance party for Ms Emily’s birthday today and presented her with the painting they made for her. They also began their journey with clay today. Each material speaks differently to the children and the clay suggested so many things to them.  Small hands were squishing, rolling, smoothing, patting, poking, slipping, exploring the nature of the clay.  Out of the busy work sprang wheels, pizza, tacos, eggs, snack cake, basketballs, soccer balls, sidewalks, drums (with several lively drum circles going on to play them), pancakes, zombies, smiley faces, volcanoes that shoot fire, balls, nests, and nests complete with baby dinosaurs.  The children shared a few things they noticed while working with the clay:

GK: "well it was soft"

BW: "mine had cracks in it"

DY: "that it kind of looks like sidewalk"

IF: "mine was like the ocean"

HH: "we put water in it and then it gets soft and then we wash our hands"

PK: "when dolphins go in the water the sharks eat the dolphin"

KB: "I just made a baby nest with a baby dinosaur"

HH: "The playdough was stuck to my hand"

AF: "mine looked like cotton candy"

PK: "I like clay and I like cotton candy and the cotton candy mom"

Have a clayful playful day!
