Rainbows

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  We have noticed the children creating rainbows with all kinds of materials in the classroom and so we asked them today "What do you love about rainbows?"

CS: "Sometimes rain and the sun and the clouds make a rainbow... and sometimes if you cover the gray stick with a little silver on it then it would glow in the dark"
DY: "I love that they are colorful"
LO: "When it gets pink.  Pink is rain"
RN: "I love purple in the rainbow"
BW: "That they have a lot of colors"

We are also generating some ideas about our bee friend.  A group of students went to check on our bee friend today but we could not find our friend.  I asked the children when our bee friend was not there where did they go?

BW: "inside"
JG: "don't know"
TF: "outside"
JG: "not outside...sleep, when he gets up he goes to sleep but he goes to school"
DY: "the flower at the bee park"
AF: "the bees make be hives"

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
