Building a nest

With the warm temperature and breeze today, we split the class in two and some went outside and some stayed inside before joining the kids outside. The kids who went outside started telling me about a robin eggshell they found on the playscape last night at the end of the day. They wanted to build a nest for the robin or for another bird to use. We looked around in the trees for a nest, but only saw squirrel nests. We talked about how to get one up in a tree, and decided that would be really hard. The kids decided to build one on the ground and knew they needed to start with collecting branches. And they picked up a lot!

They picked out a spot where we thought a nest would be sheltered from getting run over by friends on the playscape. At first they piled all the sticks up, but then they started again and this time were more thoughtful about how they placed the sticks. More items from the playground: rocks, shells, and dandelions were added and then they were done. And they were so proud of their nest!

The kids inside played with several different activities around the classroom.

Have a good evening and don't forget to check out the raffle since there are new items raffled off each day!
