Another Birthday!

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room families! We had a fantastic morning celebrating N.S.'s birthday (popcorn and a movie) before heading outside for some outdoor play. Children are beginning to form meaningful relationships with one another and it has been beautiful to watch these new friendships form. It was another wonderful day in the Oak Room! Have a wonderful night!

Our First Walk

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  This morning the Oak students discussed with each other how we could be safe on walks and then we went for a short walk in the neighborhood.  The children also discussed some of the things they noticed on their walk including seeing "somebody cleaning their door", hearing cicadas, a few children said they saw "a stick with leaves", one student said they saw a skunk and a squirrel, another student saw "a real leaf and it was purple", one student said they saw a classmate fall down.  One of the many purposes of going to the forest and going for walks is for the children to develop their observation skills and generate discussions through shared experiences.  Sometimes we go out looking for something in particular (shapes, colors, signs of the seasons, plants, animals, etc.) and sometimes, like today, we observe to see what draws the children's attention.  The children had ideas for where they wanted to try walking next t...

Birthday Celebration!

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  Here at Ambrose we enjoy celebrating birthdays for each student in a way that the student chooses.  Today we celebrated CH's birthday by baking a cake and having a dance party.  A few students worked together to mix the batter and after rest time all of the students in the class will get a chance to share the cake.   Have a wonderful day!

Storytime

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  The children were especially interested in stories today and by popular request we read extra stories.  Teachers also overhead discussions between the children about how they could ask for things from each other and how to check on a friend if you accidentally hurt them.  While the teachers interact with the children throughout the day these moments of learning and spontaneous engaged discussion amongst the students is such an opportunity for children to guide each other and shape their own classroom community and culture that teachers often intentionally stand back and observe while the children lead the way. Have a fantastic week!

Friday Fun Day

Image
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  The children are continuing to engage with different materials and the teachers are continuing to learn what the children gravitate towards most.  Ambrose is heavily inspired by the Reggio Approach to education and part of that approach includes following the students' interests and incorporating learning opportunities organically with those interests.  Each year follows a different path based on the children in the class that year.  We are so excited to learn from this class! Have a wonderful weekend!
