First Walk of the Year

Image
Good afternoon, oak room family! In anticipation of cooler weather next week we took a short walk around the school to practice before our first forest day of the year. The children did a great job of practicing walking safely and after our walk they shared in meeting some of the things they did to be safe on our walk. DY: “We were standing next to the gate” HH: “We stayed behind the teacher” IF: “We just stayed on the sidewalk” GI: “We didn't run" HH: "If someone is doing something to you, you just say "stop" and if they don't you go out of line and tell a teacher" GK: "We were in a straight line" GM: "We didn't sit down" IF: "If we sat down we would get stepped on" PK, CS and HH: "If we sat down we could get lost" Have a wonderful weekend!

The Snail

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  The heat index wasn't as high after breakfast today so we were able to get outside for a little bit before it went up again.  This time we played on the hillside with the big snail and a lot of shade.  The children enjoyed the openness of the outdoors, climbing, running, making friends with the giant snail and just had an all around good time.  We continued our discussions about how to encourage bees to visit our window with the children sketching some design ideas and using various loose materials to build some structures that bees could enjoy.  The children are now stuck on the question of how to attach some of these creations to the windows.  We are very curious to see the path that the children's ideas take. Have a magnificent day!

Bee Friends

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  The children as a whole approached today with growing confidence as they revisited spaces they used yesterday and remembered our daily routines.  The children recognized each other today and were eager to play together again.  It was also a lot of fun to play in the gym today! Yesterday AF noticed a bee on a flower outside one of the windows of the school.  AF checked in on his bee friend a few times yesterday and today suggested "Let's go check on our bee friend".  CS accompanied AF to check on our bee friend but our friend was not there.  AF started wondering if we could do something to bring our bee friend back and suggested "Maybe we could put some bee food out for our bee friend?"  A teacher wondered aloud what bees eat.  CS answered "bees eat pollen."  At that AF turned to the teacher "yes, so do you have any pollen for bees?"  Unfortunately the teacher did not have any pollen for bees on hand....
