"We're Going to the Forest!"

Today was our forest day and the children could hardly hold their excitement.  On our way there I overheard one of the friends joyfully say to another friend "we're going to the forest!" Then some friends noticed a worm on the sidewalk and stopped to take a look and began saying "we found a mealworm!"

Once inside the forest friends were happy to explore climbing, hanging upside down and balancing on their favorite logs and trees while some friends enjoyed exploring the different paths.  Check out them out in the pics below.  




















We noticed some friends working together to move a log for the house they were building for the animals. Check them out in the video below...


These friends were gathering leaves to make a habitat for the bugs.  They even used a large leaf as a cover to keep them safe from the rain.  



On our way back from the forest we stopped by to see the neighborhood chickens.  The children were very excited to meet them for the first time!




We have enjoyed and loved our second week of school!  We hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend!

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
