The Big Reveal!

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  Today was the day of the big reveal.  I'm posting a video link here for anyone who did not get to walk through and follow the arrows this morning so you can get the experience without spoiling the surprise!

As you may have seen in prior blogs or in our classroom, the students spent a few weeks building an unnamed city.  After much discussion the children came up with a list of possible names for the city including (but not limited to): Live City, My Town, Rock Hill, Colorado, Webster Groves, San Diego and Jurassic Park.  Students voted on the names and chose Jurassic Park.  Students asked that the name of the city not be shared in the blog until they could construct a sign for the city and properly reveal it to families.  Students suggested posting a sign at the front of the school and placing arrows to guide families in to see our town and discover its name.  We hope you enjoyed the big reveal of the city and it's official name in person or on the video linked above.  This has been such a fun project for the students and for the teachers.





We also had a fantastic day in the forest today!  What a great end to the week!  Here is a video of the children enjoying shuffling through the leaves into the forest:

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
