New Invitation

Happy Wednesday everyone! It's hard to believe that winter break is just around the corner and the new year will be here before we know it.  We put out a new invitation today (tree cookies; grass; rocks and wooden people) with the question "What can you create with these materials?" We loved how the children transformed these materials into families, castles and houses. Some friends stayed with this activity for the duration of the morning, not wanting to pause to go outside.  Check out their work!





"This is a castle with a whole family.  There are two queens, one king, two baby queens and one baby king.  There's food and a gym in the castle."

These friends were play acting with Jack and Annie from the Magic Tree house books.
We moved the castle blocks to the table on the floor and added some big blocks along with the question "What do you need for a castle?"  Several friends worked independently on building castles until GN had the idea of everyone combining their castles together to make it into one big castle.






GN - The castle is much, much bigger because we combined them all together.
GP - Oh my gosh, look! I put a roof on and it's staying!
We love how they use their imaginations and creativity!

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
