Woodworking and Hummingbirds

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  The children enjoyed using some hand tools to work with wood today.  They used a variety of files and sandpaper but for some important effects needed colored pencils as well.  We talked about why we wear safety glasses or goggles and how to handle the tools safely.  In other news, meeting time has become pretty exciting because we now usually have hummingbird visitors to the window next to our meeting carpet.  Today we had hummingbirds at the window at the same time as birds at the other feeder and we had a chance to observe some differences between the birds.  We wondered why hummingbirds kept visiting our bee playground and had some ideas about it:
AF: "How come there's no bees?"
CS: "Because they [hummingbirds] may say 'oooo, this is a perfect playground!' "
PK: "Bees make honey"
RN: "Honey smells really good"
BW: "Maybe they [hummingbirds] think its a hummingbird playground"
PK: "or they go to the playground"
GI: "I ate honey at home"
IF: "Bees make honey"
NN: "Maybe the hummingbirds think the bee stuff is theirs"
HH: "Maybe the hummingbirds can not think it is theirs"
PK: "or a chipmunk"
RN: (noticing another hummingbird visitor to the window during the conversation) "A hummingbird!"
PK: "It's tiny!"

Have a wonderful weekend!
