The Forest!

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  We got to play in the forest today!  We went with Sycamore Room and will continue to visit The Forest with them on Mondays.  There are so many reasons that we go to the forest and above all we have a lot of fun there, but here are just a few of the reasons that we go to the forest:

Highlights/Purpose

  • Develop a child's self-confidence, personal boundaries, resilience, executive functioning abilities and even risk-management skills in a supervised environment

  • Exposure to nature, changes in nature, seasons, plants, animals, life cycles

  • Fosters development of self regulation skills, physical development, social emotional skills, problem solving skills, collaboration 

  • Develop responsibility for taking care of the world, stewardship

  • Sparks curiosities which might lead to new studies and student interests or enhances current ones

  • Learning in a natural environment

  • Opportunities to explore their world using all senses

  • Opportunities to move in different ways that promote their overall physical and mental wellness

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
