BABY!!! and a trip to the library

Good afternoon, Oak Room Families!  We had the most exciting news in the Oak Room today!  Our very own OL got a new baby sister this morning!  We are so very grateful for the update and so happy to hear that mom and baby are doing well.  The students like to celebrate their birthdays with popcorn so they decided we needed to celebrate the adorable beautiful wonderful new baby's birthday today with popcorn this afternoon with our afternoon snack.  We also took a field trip to the Webster Groves Public Library today and the library director, Madison, was so kind and took us on a tour of the 3 floors of the library and explained parts of the library to us and we ended up on the third floor in the children's area where there were some delightful toys!  Children's librarians Caitlyn and Kim helped us find some books about becoming a big sister as well as a couple books about libraries that we were able to borrow for our class.  A few children also picked out a handful of books that we borrowed for our class as well.  Then the librarians got out some books and the children got to pick out a book to keep for their very own!  It was wonderful and the children can bring home and keep the books they picked out at the library.  We will plan more trips to the library but we discussed how far away it was and were wondering if there were closer or other libraries around us that we could visit.  We will continuing researching and planning other library outings.  As a class we declared that with all the wonderful things today that it was "THE BEST DAY EVER!"

Birthday Celebration and Creative Morning

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family!  It is important to us in the Oak Room that all children are celebrated so we have started celebrating our summer birthday friends.  August birthdays were celebrated at the beginning of the year and we are now celebrating June and July birthdays during May.  We had a great time celebrating XH this morning with movie and popcorn! Reminder that there is no school for students tomorrow for a work day for teachers. Have a wonderful long weekend!

Lunar New Year

Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The children have been learning about lunar new year and after the children helped repair Ms Lena’s lion last week we were able to do a lion dance as a class today.  The children listened to their own heartbeats while calm and after jumping around and then used instruments to act as the lion’s heartbeat fast and slow for different feelings of the lion. Today is the first day of Lunar New Year and the beginning of the year of the wood snake. We also enjoyed small capers today and practiced a fire drill.  We wish you a healthy and prosperous new year and hope that like the snake you can shed and leave behind that which you don’t want to bring with you into the new year!

Self Portrait Work & Another Guest Reader

Good afternoon, Oak room families! Today some children had the opportunity to work on their self portrait paintings. It is amazing to see the amount of growth in the children's detailed work since we first did this project in the Fall! We are excited to put our pictures on these pieces and get them displayed soon. We also had another fabulous guest reader this morning! G.B.'s mom came and read a few stories to the class. Thank you so much for visiting, Ms. Kylie! Friends had some fun in the gym this morning, too. It's hard to be stuck inside during these rainy Spring days, but we are making the most of our indoor spaces. It was a fantastic morning!
