A Quest for Turnips
Good afternoon, Oak Room Family! The Oak Room children have become interested in turnips after reading the book Grandma Lena's Big Ol' Turnip and determined that they want to try turnips. We have discussed the foods that Grandma Lena made in the book and decided to make turnip stew and corn muffins. The children discussed where we could get turnips and suggested going to a farmer's market but when we looked up farmers markets we could not find one within walking distance from the school. Next they came up with the idea to go to a store so we planned a field trip to go to Straub's and this morning went to Straub's in search of turnips but they did not have any either. We did get the other ingredients for our turnip stew and corn muffins. After we returned the children suggested that teachers use their car to go get turnips from a farther away store. We have now successfully obtained the turnips and look forward to making stew and muffins tomorrow.
Have a great day!
